Pancho Villa

A favourite of the “NoHo” food scene and considered to be one of the best Mexican restaurants in Hobart, Pancho Villa is named after the Mexican revolutionary and that’s definitely the vibe the place is going for. Taking traditional Mexican cuisine and shaking it up like a spicy marg, you’ll find pork cheek tacos, Cerveza-braised pumpkin, and duck fat churros on the menu alongside other classic favourites. There’s a tequila bar out the back called Voodoo Bar if you’d rather just drink, and Pancho Villa also does a wildly popular bottomless brunch within its skull-lined walls – make sure you get in fast and book.

Grinners Dive Bar

Grinners is an inner-city dive bar that proudly offers two things: tacos and booze. And luckily, they do both things well. Grinners’ current menu offers at least eleven types of tacos, from tinga chicken to beef estofado to veggie delights like miso mushroom, kung pao cauliflower and grilled haloumi. You can also grab other Mexi-themed favourites like burritos, nachos, quesadillas, wings, jalapeno poppers and loaded fries. Wash it all down with a local beer, a spicy margarita or a strawberry mezcalita for something different.

Casa de Amor

The artist formerly known as Tacos Mexican Restaurant has recently rebranded into Casa de Amor, which appears to be a change of name only. This Salamanca staple is still serving up traditional Mexican fare using locally sourced-produce and providing a relaxed, welcoming and fun vibe (yes, there are sombreros on the tables). And most importantly, Casa de Amor is still making the frozen margaritas it is famous for in 32 flavours, from classic to watermelon to jelly bean and everything in between. We’ll drink to that.

Mother Mexico

Located within the cool, outdoor In the Hanging Garden complex, Mother Mexico, currently serving out of the Pizza Pizza window, is a great option if you’re looking for a chill Mexican meal in Hobart. Find a spot at one of the tables in the expansive ITHG beer garden and head over to the cantina for tacos (the barbacoa lamb and the al pastor are favourites) or street eats like elotes (charred corn), guac and chips, jalapeno poppers or bang bang fries. Taco Taco Food Truck

For good times, good fun and great tacos, it's hard to go past this food truck when it pulls up at your next catered event or at a foodie-fuelled festival around the state. 

Bringing tasty tacos to the streets of Hobart, Taco Taco is Tassie’s first taco truck. They've been a part of many great festivals, catered heaps of weddings and made a bunch of friends along the way.

The ethos behind this delicious Mexican food truck is simple food, packed with flavour. Everything is made from scratch, using as much locally sourced produce as is available, including rare breed pork and goat meat from Bruny Island. 

As such, the tacos at Taco Taco are super fresh and wholesome - we love the classic carnitas.

Amigos

Amigos has the crown of the oldest Mexican restaurant in Hobart and has been serving up spicy goodness for almost forty years. Unassuming and laid-back, it’s a family-run venue and perfect for a casual meal with your mates. Amigos has every classic Mexican dish you could possibly ask for, from tacos to burritos to enchiladas, chimichangas, nachos, mole and more. While dishes are served mild as a default, there’s a sliding scale of spiciness you can request – peaking at “hurt me”. There’s a huge range of Mexican beers on offer too, which might help take the edge off the “hurt me” option if that’s what you go with!
